Endocrinologist

Dr. Alejandro Cob

I am a specialist in endocrinology, a branch of medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of hormonal and metabolic diseases. I trained as a medical surgeon at the University of Costa Rica and later completed my specialization in Endocrinology, graduating with honors in both stages of my training.

Since 2019, I have practiced as an endocrinologist, first at Tony Facio Hospital in Limón, and since 2021 I have been part of the medical team at San Juan de Dios Hospital. That same year, I obtained certification as a Diabetes Educator, reinforcing my commitment to comprehensive care and patient education.

I maintain constant academic updating, participating in congresses and specialized programs, with particular interest in topics such as obesity, thyroid, diabetes and diabetes technologies, such as insulin pumps and glucose sensors. I have contributed as a researcher in multiple clinical studies in diabetes, in addition to publishing scientific articles and collaborating in the development of national and Central American consensuses on diabetes management and dyslipidemias.

In the academic field, I am a professor of undergraduate studies at the School of Medicine of the University of Costa Rica, as well as a teacher in the Endocrinology specialty program at the same institution. I also actively participate as a speaker in continuing medical education activities for health professionals. Currently, I serve as vice president of the Costa Rican Association of Endocrinology (ASCEND).

Beyond the titles, I firmly believe in the value of the doctor-patient relationship. Listening, knowing and understanding each person is fundamental to offer individualized treatment. I take the time to explain each condition clearly and closely, promoting patient education and the adoption of non-pharmacological interventions that complement medical treatment and improve their quality of life.
